Clarkson College Celebrates Groundbreaking for Major Campus Improvements

Clarkson College leadership, faculty, staff, and students gathered Monday, June 2 to celebrate the ceremonial groundbreaking of a new Welcome Center and Link. The project will enhance the College campus at the corner of 42nd and Dodge Streets adjacent to Omaha’s Blackstone District by adding enhanced learning spaces as well as improving campus wayfinding. The new Welcome Center will move the “front door” of the campus to the south, near the intersection of 42nd and Douglas Streets. A large digital board with a 4-story scrim will adorn the northwest corner of the Main Building and serve as a beacon for visitors and commuters of the Dodge Street corridor.

Chief among the improvements is the remodel of the South Building, formerly used as a daycare in addition to housing classrooms and offices. Campus visitors will arrive through a new glass lobby at the south end of the building. Upgraded state-of-the-art learning spaces within will feature the 3D Printing and Training Center of Excellence, Professional Development for community learners, and renovated Physical Therapist Assistant program spaces.

An ornamental arch, to be installed at the south entrance of the Campus Courtyard, will serve as the entry point of an expanded Clarkson Service League Heritage Garden including green space and a memorial garden.

When completed, the “Link” will literally link each building on campus, allowing users to safely navigate in an enclosed space. The Link will include study space for students, gathering areas for special events, and a tribute to donors.
