Cravens, Dishman Honored by the March of Dimes

The March of Dimes Nebraska and Western Iowa chapter honors nursing professionals each year during their Heroes in Action (formerly Nurse of the Year) awards ceremony. In fall 2021, two Clarkson College faculty members earned nominations for the Heroes in Action awards.

Marsha Cravens, M.Ed., MSN, RN, and Mary Dishman, MSN, BSN, both received nominations for 2021. Nursing professionals are nominated by peers, supervisors,patients and families in a range of categories including Education and Research, Diversity and Advocacy, and Public Health Nursing. Nominees must demonstrate excellence and achievement in their category, all while promoting a positive image for the nursing profession.

Ms. Cravens became an instructor at Clarkson College in 2003. In 2015, she was appointed the Director of Undergraduate Nursing and in 2021, move to the Assistant Director role. For nearly twenty years, she has taught, guided and inspired students on their paths to becoming nursing professionals.

“I’m honored to be nominated for this award,” she said. “A quote that expresses my purpose in health care is ‘to the world you are just oneperson, but to one person, you could mean the world.’”

Ms. Dishman has been at Clarkson College since 2006 and since 2015, she has served as the Assistant Director of the Undergraduate Nursing program. During her time at the College, she has served as a member of the Faculty Senate and helped lead the Omicron Epsilon chapter of the Sigma Theta Tau national nursing honors society.
