To help meet student needs, Clarkson College launched an online transfer Associate’s degree in Physical Therapist Assistant (PTA) track in spring 2021. The new option gives students the opportunity to earn their degree online while completing on-campus skills check weekends.
The online transfer program is designed for individuals who have an Associate’s degree or higher or have earned at least 35 credit hours from an accredited institution. Students can complete their degree in just 16 months (four semesters) with final clinical rotations arranged near their hometowns.
Through distance-learning technologies, students can complete their theory courses online. Students will utilize a learning management system that provides them with opportunities to connect with instructors and classmates. To complete their degree, students must complete hands on experiences with faculty during on-campus skills weekends. These sessions will take place four times per semester for the first three semesters of their program.
The College implemented the new track in response to a needs assessment that revealed many individuals who are interested in becoming PTAs are looking for flexibility when obtaining their degree. The new program option allows individuals in rural areas to earn their degree without having to relocate to campus. This can also help meet the need for health care professionals in rural areas as individuals can complete clinical requirements in their hometowns. The flexibility also allows students who are currently working as physical therapy technicians to continue working while earning their degree in PTA.
Clarkson College will continue to offer a traditional on-campus option to earn an Associate’s degree in PTA designed for first-time college students and those seeking an in-person instructional college experience. Learn more about our on-campus and online options.
